Magazine Covers pt2

Understanding Magazines:

Early magazine covers

The popular Peterson's women's magazine of 1872 uses a completely common cover well decorated with the leafy border of proper embroidery, with a pleasant collection of drawings at the bottom indicating the many aspects of woman in the family.

The Poster Cover:

The Boston magazine of May 2013 is a praise towards the April 15 bombing at the Boston Marathon .  This magazine cover uses the assembly of different colors and brands of shoes to put together a tribute to the resiliency of runners, the marathon, and the city. To seem more heart felt, the shoes are arranged in the shape of a heart and in the center of the collage of shoes is the phrase "We Will Finish This Race".

Pictures Married to Type:

In the December 2009 Vibe magazine, the audience it would attract would be music lovers, most likely in the genre of R&B and listen to Eminem, lil Wayne, Jay-z, and DMX. The main image (Eminem) is stood straight to the camera to show off his tattoos and try to give an overall image of a ‘hard man’. This image will bring in fans of the artist and make them want to buy the magazine as there is an article about him that may be of interest to the fan.

In the Forest of Words:

In the March 2009 Elle magazine, they fill their center image with Jessica alba to catch the attention  of people. To keep the viewers reading they have put their cover lines all over the magazine, almost like a collage, so you can't miss it. Magazines find ways to tempt you read celebrities gossip and find fun facts on how to lose weight and whats up in the fashion trend these days.
